George Washington lived between 1732-1799. He was born in Virginia colony, as a President he lived in New York City and Philadelphia,the nation's first Two Capitals. When he retired, he returned to his plantation at Mt. Vernon.
When he was a wealthy farmer, he spent most of his life in military and in politics. Leading the colonial forces to victory in the Revolutionary War, he then helped shape the new government of the United States. On April 30, 1789; he wassworn in as the first President of the United States.
George Washington inspired Americans and help unite them. One of his great accomplishments as president is to keep the peace with Britain and France. Upon leaving the presidency, he urged Americans to aviod becoming politically divided.
Washington was known as the father of the United States, he and Abraham Lincoln are the greatest American president in history.
